The Anstruther Golf Club was founded in 1890 has seen many changes over the years, from a 7 hole course, with trenches through the middle and poles scattered over the greens to stop gliders landing during the war. In more peaceful times this has developed into a magnificent 9 hole course that is both a pleasure and a challenge to play.
Stretched along the shoreline between Pittenweem and Anstruther the views are spectacular and the coastline adds to the complexity of the round with winds off the sea and bankings heading towards the beach.
The 7 hole course was extended in 1916 to the 9 hole course, after the attempts of building an 18 hole course had failed due to lack of financial support. The holes have changed slightly too with many of them being altered in the way the round is played, the last major alteration being in 1961 when the Monument was changed from the 8th to the 2nd to avoid a double crossing on the Chain Road.
