In 1905, Dunmurry Golf Club opened in Upper Dunmurry Lane on the outskirts of Belfast. The original 9 hole course was designed and laid by GS Dunn of Newcastle, Co. Down at a cost of £54, on ground rented at £15 per annum.
Early family links to the Lisburn linen industry are reflected in the club emblem which features a flax hammer used in the production of linen fibre.
In 1927, alterations to the original course were carried out by golf architects, Colt and Anderson. The course was extended to 14 holes in 1973 and later 18 holes in 1977.
A rented villa comprised the original Club House, and later a barn was purchased for £150 and converted into a Club House which was in use until 1976, when it was bombed and destroyed by fire.
Notable members of the club include Samuel (Max) McCready, winner of the British Amateur Golf Championship in 1949, held that year at Portmarnock.
In 1983, road improvement schemes in the Dunmurry area necessitated a move to the present site in D
