Extra info
Sited on the southern shore of St Ives Bay at Lelant, West Cornwall Golf Club enjoys an enviable reputation as a most testing 18 holes of golf, on a course which has many beautiful panoramas. Every round of golf is enhanced by the spectacular views.
Wherever golf is played, people speak of West Cornwall Golf Club as one of the most glorious ‘natural’ courses in the British Isles. They will remember that ‘Long Jim’ Barnes, one of the small band of players who have won an Open Championship on both sides of the Atlantic, learned the game as a caddie here.
More recently, young Philip Rowe at the age of 20 was selected for the victorious 1999 Walker Cup team at Nairn. After captaining the Great Britain and N.I. Boys in 1997, he was selected for the English Youths and full Men’s teams in the same year. The original 9 hole course was laid out in 1889 by the Reverend RF Tyacke, vicar of Lelant Parish, who carried out the duties of Club Secretary right up to the time of his death in 1901
