The Army Golf Club first known as Aldershot Divisional Golf Club was founded on the 6 November 1883 by Lieutenant Colonel E H Sartorious VC. The first Course consisting of some 10 holes was laid out in the area of the Duke of Wellington Statue.



Lieutenant F G “Freddie” Tait represented the Club and was the first County Amateur Champion in 1894. He went on to win the National Amateur Championships in 1896 and 1898.

1895 saw the first move of the Course to Smallshot Common where 9 holes were constructed. 1904 saw it move to Cove Common and in 1905 18 holes were in play.

Turbulent times through two World Wars saw the Course change with the military requisitioning much of the land for its use. 1940 saw only 5 holes remaining. In 1947 a new 9 hole Course was laid out and this was extended to 18 in 1967.

In the period 1970/74 the Course was again redesigned and the new Clubhouse as it now stands today completed. By and large the course and Clubhouse has remained unch
