Extra info
In the heart of the Black Forest, Freudenstadt lies on a high plateau surrounded by extensive spruce and pine forests at the intersection of Black Forest's scenic touristic "Crest Road", "Valley Road" and "Spa Road". At the outskirts of this reputed climatic spa, Baden-Wurttemberg second's largest resort, lies one of the oldest clubs in Germany, Freudenstadt Golf Club.
Founded in 1929 by ten gentlemen with the help of the local city council, Freudenstadt started with a seven hole course designed by the English architect Wilson. The original course will be played until the outbreak of World War II, but at the end of the war, occupying troop used the place as training grounds and the course was completely destroyed. But Freudenstadt's members set to the task of building a new course, which was inaugurated in 1954. Designed by H.E. Gartner, this nine holler was extended to 18 hole in 1992 by German architect Hannes Schreiner. The later would become famous five years later for his layout at St. Leon Rot, near Heidelberg (see individual entry), venue of the European TPC Championship, won by Tiger wood in 2001 and 2002. Both nine extend in a parkland setting with the backdrop of the Black Forest, between tall stands of ancient trees, forests, farmland and around an equestrian farm
