Extra info
One of Ireland's "Big Four", together with Portmarnock, Ballybunion and Royal County Down, Royal Portrush is located in the seaside resort of Portrush, on Northern Ireland's Causeway Coast, in County Antrim. One of Ireland's oldest club, Portrush was established in 1888 as The County Club. It became the Royal County Club in 1892, when H.R.H The Duke of York became its patron, and finally changed its name to The Royal Portrush Golf Club in 1895, with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales as patron.
Royal Portrush was the venue of the first professional tournament in Ireland in 1895 and in the same year the first Ladies Championship was held. But it was not be until 1951 though that Royal Portrush made its way to the headlines on the world stage, when it became the first, and last, Irish course to host the British Open. Royal Portrush has two superb links courses, both laid out at the end of the 19th century, the Dunluce and Valley Links.
