Royal Tara Golf Club was founded in December 1906 in Navan, Co. Meath, where the club had its original course at Balreask, off the Dublin road. The club was initially known as Navan Golf Club, the first captain was Major J.R. Roberts, and the course comprised of 9 holes. In 1909 the Marquis of Headford was elected the first president of the club. In 1923 the club moved 6 miles from Navan to Bellinter, on the old Bellinter estate, and the club was renamed Bellinter Park Golf Club. The club affiliated to the Golfing Union of Ireland and appointed its first professional who was paid a wage of £1 per week. 1923 was also the first year that lady members were elected. In 1925 the club decided to play by the "Rules of Golf" and in 1926 adopted the Standard Scratch Score (SSS) handicapping scheme. The clubhouse at this time was a World War 1 hut which was extended and modified numerous times over subsequent years. In 1930 the first local rules were drafted, the annual subscription fee at that
