Extra info
Threading through the picturesque woodlands of the Pollok Estate, the itinerant golfer could be forgiven for thinking that the lush fairways belonged to some idyllic rural setting, rather than a course but a ten minute drive south from the bustling city centre of Glasgow. However, the Pollok Golf Club, founded in 1892, enjoys a calm and tranquil setting laid out in the estate of Pollok House, close by the renowned Burrell Gallery. The White Cart Water meanders between the cordons of ash, beech and elm that are its boundaries. A true parkland course of 6,358 yards, with a par of 71, the holes are agreeably flat with subtle undulations making a choice of shot always available. Its main defences lie in the very shape of each hole, sculpted between magnificent oaks and chestnuts, with over seventy bunkers set to catch the errant shot. When the hole is safely negotiated however, the quality of the greens leaves putting a pleasurable and satisfying experience.
