Extra info
The golf club in Ostend (De Haan) was founded by King Leopold II.
He wanted to promote tourism on the Belgian Coast and to attract British golfplayers.
At the same time he also decided to built a golf course in Brussels.
Both golf courses were one club, the Royal Golf Club de Belgique.
The course and the clubhouse in Ostend were officially opened on the 1st of July 1903 in the presence of the King.
The course in Brussels was opened in 1905.
The construction of the course in Ostend started in January 1902.
It took a very short time because of the sandy soil of the sea-side, perfectly adapted for a links course.
